In Malayalam, the problem is that though I want to do only good cinema, many look at my films with a concern for monetary figures. There are a lot equations that I have to fit in to for the sake of my producers, distributors and the exhibitors. But in Tamil, nobody expects anything from me. I am a newcomer here. I can afford to say what kind of films I would like to do. But in Malayalam, people expect me to be a tough action hero.

Don't you feel you have fallen into a trap?

But if I really played up to only what people wanted, I would have had many super hits by now. If I had bowed down fully to what producers and distributors say, a Vaasthavam (for which he got the Kerala state award) would not have happened, a Daivanamathil would not have happened. Even in Malayalam, I did films that excited me.

How difficult was learning the sign language in Mozhi?

There was an expert on the sets all the time. So, it was very well taken care of. Yet, we have to put in that extra effort. It was a bit tough for me because I had to match my dialogues with the sign language. It is different when you show just the sign language and when you have to match your lip movement in co-ordination with the sign language.
