NY welcomes The Namesake

From India came Tabu and Irrfan Khan who were warmly welcomed by the film’s executive producer Ronnie Screwvala who had flown from London a few hours before the premiere.

"I saw the film when it was shown at the festival in Rome," Tabu, dressed in a gorgeous sari and sleeveless blouse, said. "But I am dying to see it again. I would root for this any time, even if I were not in it."

With a broad smile, Irrfan Khan declared that playing Ashoke Ganguli, the immigrant professor in the film, was one of his biggest challenges.

"Ashoke does not go around showing his feelings easily," he said. "There are a lot of things going on in him but his surface is always calm. I had to underplay this role, and yet I had to allow the audience to see what was going on inside Ashoke."
