If the scene outside resembled a spiritually infused ceremony, the scene inside was from another planet. Jammed past capacity 20 minutes before show time, the crowd continued to push through the double doors steadily as the screen flashed to life and the lights dimmed.
The roar was deafening -- screams, whistles, tablas, shouts, catcalls and sundry other exultations. This was just the opening advertisements.
Suddenly, Rajni Superstar emblazoned across the screen, bringing the deafening noise up a few more painful decibels. My long term hearing was in danger. I still smiled; it was exciting and easy to lose myself in the marvel.
