Item numbers and cameos
People have been asking me about my cameos in 36 China Town and Bhagam Bhag. I did a cameo in 36 China Town because that was the only way I could show my gratitude to Mukta Arts, as I had signed a three-film contract with them. Being a newcomer is hard and they gave me a chance.
Normally, producers sign contracts and they wait for the actor to be more popular, but Mukta Arts signed me and started the movie immediately. They were the first big banner to sign me. So, when they approach me with a song in 36 China Town I did not say no. It was also a brilliant opportunity to work with Abbas Mastan.
However, Bhagam Bhag is a different story. It was a gut feeling that doing this film would work wonders for me and my career.
I had not heard the song before I went in for the shoot and I had no idea what my part would be in the film. But I wanted to work with Priyan sir (Priyadarshan). My co-actors were Akshay Kumar and Govinda so I went for it. My song has become such a big hit that so many organisers are calling me up to perform because of that one song. On the basis of that one song, filmmakers have approached me and I got two more cameo offers, which I refused. I think the song was placed well in the film and was also presented and publicised well. I was involved in the promotional process as much as Lara (Dutta). And after seeing my work, Priyan sir signed me for another project of his, where I am playing the main lead actress.
