Being Cyrus
Very few Hindi films have managed to really capture the Parsi culture though Bollywood has seen many stereotypical Parsi characters before.
This outing by Homi Adajania is recommended because of its layered narrative and brilliant performances. Being Cyrus is not for the average movie-goer. That could be the reason it did not enjoy the success it deserved.
Cyrus, a wannabe sculptor, shows up in Dinshaw Sethna's (Naseeuddin Shah) home asking to be his assistant. In the course of time, Cyrus is introduced to the dysfunctional Sethna parivar. The events soon build up to an unpredictable climax.
Naseer, Dimple Kapadia, and Boman Irani capture the Parsi mood very well. Saif, as Cyrus, brings the required flair to his character. We definitely need more movies like this.
