Martin Scorsese is certainly not new to crime stories but in The Departed he offers his most commercially appealing film of the genre. It has already grossed $250 million worldwide and could make much more with a raft of Oscar nominations. While not departing from his mob preoccupation, Scorsese also focuses on cops this time with his Infernal Affairs remake.

With a cast of smart artists -- Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon (who is even more impressive in The Good Shepherd) -- there is plenty of energy and sharp dialogue in the newest Scorsese triumph.
