Muqaddar Ka Sikandar (1978)
The disparity between classes formed a major part of cinema, especially from the mid 1970s to the mid 1980s. This Prakash Mehra film cast Bachchan as Sikandar, a lowly servant boy with big dreams. He is in love with the bade ghar ki (well to do) Rakhi.
Bachchan has toiled hard to help his friend Vishal (Vinod Khanna) have a good life, but when this friend turns out to marry Rakhi. He is devastated. He turns to drink, and dancing girls -- among which Zohrabai (Rekha) catches his fancy. Much melodramatic tragedy -- and a killer soundtrack -- is part of this failed-love story.
