Mandira Bedi's World Cup wardrobe

Tell us about your film, Meerabai Not Out.

The film was my husband's (Raj Kaushal, director of Shaadi Ke Laddoo) idea. He decided if a film needed to be made with Mandira, her USP would be her connect with cricket. Besides, I don't fall into the commercial film category.

Meerabai Not Out is a story of a cricket fan, which is what all of us are. And we can relate to this because our country loves cricket.

Meera Achrekar is a teacher in a school called Vishwa Prem Vidyalay. She is a middle class woman, who lives in Mumbai's Shivaji Park. She is crossed the age of 30 and she is in that kind of a set-up where she seems to have missed the boat as far as marriage is concerned. Of course, her family is still on her case to get her married but she is not interested; her first love is cricket. She loves Anil Kumble. This is a story of how someone comes into her life but cricket is still foremost her life, and then what happens.

Anil Kumble plays a cameo; he plays himself.

Tell us more about your character.

In Meerabai, I wear spectacles for 99 percent of the film. I'm not looking ugly. Meera wears a certain kind of chudidar, carries a bag, drives a kinetic and ties her hair in a choti most of the time. I've completely gone away from Mandira Bedi. There is nothing glamorous about me in this film.
