Sreenivasan had a great year with Arabikkatha. The film had a good run at the box office, and was appreciated by the critics as well. As the rather impractical communist Cuba Mukundan, who believed that life resembled the text books, Sreenivasan portrayed a role which made the viewers think as well.

Thakarachenda showed him in an entirely different avatar, as a crippled urchin. The film told the sorry tale of some slum dwellers who faced the threat of being evacuated by the authorities.
