Sajid and you are good friends, right?
Sajid and I go back a long way, we're pals for over 20 years now. And this is the first time he's directing a film. I must tell you that the industry has lost a very good comedian, and they've gained a very good director. I hope he (does continue comedy) but it all depends on the success of this film.
On the sets with a friend directing the film, do you end up having more fun?
Oh, it was a picnic. At Sydney and Gold Coast, we ended having such a good time. And it was a young group, so everyday there were pranks being played on each other. Everyday someone had to suffer. (Laughs)
We know you're a prankster, but are there times when you're on the receiving end?
Well, Vidya tried it. And I must tell you, her plan was the best plan. There was really investment in her prank -- I've never heard of somebody spending money to play a prank, but that's what she did. She went and bought seven alarm clocks, and she came to my room and quietly hid them all over the place. One alarm was for 1:30, then 2:00, then 2:30 and so on, so that every half hour I'd wake up and hunt for the alarm clocks. It was very well thought out.
Unfortunately for her, that day there was the England-Australia cricket match going on, and me and Sajid, Nadiad (Sajid Nadiadwala, producer), Riteish, Fardeen were all in my room sitting and watching the match. So the alarm clocks kept going off, but we'd just pick them up and throw them away. Nobody was sleeping, so her prank backfired. The right prank, but the wrong night.
When having such a great time on the sets, does the work take a backseat?
Naw, the work was going on. And we were working with a very big superstar, who was the baby. Who would come with two doctors and one nurse, and she would go off to sleep while giving a shot, and nobody would dare bother her. She would come with six other babies to do her duplicate work, and she would want to eat at any time and throw up on anyone.
It was a great time, and we were working two hours a day (laughs) so we had a lot of free time, time at the casinos, and it was a big, huge party.
