How many times have they met the star in person? Just once, says Anandan. It happened in Chennai and was undoubtedly the best moment of their lives. "We are inspired by his way of life," adds Karthik.
What about Rajnikanth? Should Kamal and Rajni do a movie together? While Kamal fans have nothing against Rajni, they say there is no comparing the two. "Rajni is an all out crowd puller, while Kamal is a genuine actor. In fact, it is because of Kamal Haasan that Rajni is still in the movies. When Rajni wanted to pull out, Kamal Haasan coaxed him to stay on. He told Rajni to act independently in movies so he would have an identity of his own," the
fans say proudly.
"We wouldn't want them in a movie together," says Vatsa, "as it would create a lot of conflict in Tamil Nadu." What about Kamal and Bollywood? "If he wanted to, he could have made it big. But he chose not to. Unlike Hema Malini and Sridevi, Kamal Haasan has not forgotten his roots. He wanted to continue to contribute to Tamil cinema," the fans say. "No Bollywood star comes close to him."
What, according to them, is Haasan's best movie? "Hey! Ram and Abhay. His work in both was excellent. It wasn't conventional, commercial cinema either," says Vatsa.
One thing they really want is for their hero to win an Oscar. "Don't you think he deserves one?" they ask. "If winners were chosen through an SMS poll, we are sure every Indian would have voted for Kamal Haasan."
