Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas
Together: since 1995, married in 1996
In the romantic comedy film Two Much, Art Dodge falls in love with two sisters Betty and Liz and produces a fictional twin bro to keep the action going. In real life Art takes Betty home and marries her. Indeed Two Much was the start of the great Melanie-Antonio romance, even as she was still married to actor Don Johnson and he to Spanish actress Ana Leza.
Their relationship made headlines and Hollywood gossip magazines were full of scoop pics of Antonio (dubbed the Valentino of the 1990s) and Melanie smooching. Ana did not give Antonio a divorce for nearly a year nor would Antonio's family accept Melanie and Spanish tabloids gossiped about the cruel American blonde who does not respect the sanctity of marriage. They were finally married in a super-quiet 15-minute ceremony in London while Antonio was filming Evita.
The couple have a girl Stella dela Carmen Banderas and Melanie has a large heart, with Antonio inscribed in the centre, tattoo-ed on her right arm in honour of her Spanish heartthrob.
'When Antonio was recently asked by Closer Magazine if he in Melanie were splitting he said : 'When we met each other we just fell in love and went for it. We both came from failing relationships and I think we both learnt from that. I know that people didn't give a penny for our relationship at the start and newspapers bet that we wouldn't last three months. I should have taken those bets. We've kept going and I have absolutely no intention of breaking off our relationship. I feel absolutely comfortable with my wife. These days I am happy to stay at home. We love each other. It's as simple as that'.
