Owner of the Kwik-E-Mart convenience store, Apu -- named in homage to Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy -- is an exaggerated stereotype, a heavily accented Indian immigrant with octuplets and frequent citizenship issues. He's a hard worker, making it a point to be ever polite -- even at gunpoint.
