The engagement ceremony also takes place in the bride's house (these days engagement functions are performed in halls). This is a fairly simple ceremony where the bride's and groom's antecedents are announced to gathered relatives and friends.

Again, Abhishek would not have been invited for this function. Only the boy's parents and relatives are invited. Since the girl is supposed to be leaving the house, she cannot spend that particular night in her place and she has to shift to a relative's place.
