The many masks of Boman Irani

We all know his Dr Asthana, the paranoid Dean of a medical college who bucks heads with a gangster in Munnabhai MBBS, one of the most loved films in Bollywood history. "To me," says Boman, "Dr Asthana was a human being first, then a doctor."

"Dr Asthana has a blinkered existence. In fact, the more he tries to keep calm, the more paranoid and hysterical he becomes. He didn't know how to let off steam, how to deal with life, and the reason could be the loss of his wife. He is an interesting guy to play, because I don't think Deans sit and have a beer together. He is unique in his own way and makes his world revolve around him. He thinks it is a perfect world and he thinks he has power. Power is dangerous."
