Casting coups in Bollywood
Karma, 1986
When actors of the stature of Dilip Kumar and Naseeruddin Shah from two different generations take each other on on celluloid, it is a movie buff's feast.
But word from the sets was that both acting legends did not get along and refused to feature in the same frame, tales that have never been corroborated by either man 20 years on.
Producer-director Subhash Ghai also convinced Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor -- the top heroes of the time -- to feature in his take on Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.
The heroines too were a unusual mix -- Nutan, Sridevi (the top lady star of the day) and Poonam Dhillon.
Karma's real surprise was Anupam Kher, who shone as the evil Dr Dang, light years from his career-making role in Saraansh two years earlier.
