Casting coups in Bollywood
Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham, 2001
With a living legend (Amitabh Bachchan), a superstar (Shah Rukh Khan), a teen heartthrob (Hrithik Roshan), an incredible actress (Kajol) and a star on the ascendant (Kareena Kapoor) together, this was easily the biggest casting coup in recent times.
Shah Rukh and Kajol just had two consecutive megahits, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, together.
Jaya Bachchan starred opposite her husband after 20 years; the last time Mr and Mrs Bachchan shared the screen was in Silsila (1981).
And all of them trusted director Karan Johar, who was not even 30.
The audiences loved the star cast, and made the film a huge success both at home and abroad.
