Casting coups in Bollywood

Kal Aaj Aur Kal, 1971

The box office disaster that was Mera Naam Joker (1967) devastated Raj Kapoor financially.

But The Great Entertainer bounced back with Kal Aaj Aur Kal, in which he featured alongside eldest son Randhir Kapoor and father Prithviraj Kapoor, a legend in his own lifetime.

Randhir Kapoor, Karisma and Kareena's dad, directed the film.

The movie about the generation gap in a fast changing India was a moderate success at the box office. The song Bhawre Ki Gunjan was a big hit though.

Kal Aaj Aur Kal enabled Raj Kapoor and his RK Studio to make Bobby (1973), in which he paired younger son Rishi Kapoor with a teenager named Dimple Kapadia.

Bobby was a box office phenomenon. Rajsaab and the RK banner never had a flop again.
