Maachis (1996)

When the Punjab militancy was fading from public memory, veteran lyricist turned director Gulzar made this film on the subject, which revolved around how the young and the restless are drawn into the vortex of guns and terrorism.

The film gave a new lease of life to Chandrachur's career and Tabu's work won widespread applause.

The song Chappa chappa charkha chale became a chart-topper and established Vishal Bharadwaj as a music composer in the Hindi film industry.
