Rukmini Krishnan: Dressing up the stars

Sringaram

Rukmini's subsequent project was Sringaram -- a film on the devadasis by Sharada Ramanathan. "Sharada liked the costumes in Agnivarsha and got in touch with me. It was set in the 1920-40s. I made use of Benaras tissue, brocade and South Indian saris and traditional South Indian jewellery. I broke down pieces of jewellery and put it all together to create something different."

These days, Rukmini designs homes of her friends. "I try to give them something nice within their budget. That is a challenge."

She loves spending time with family at her home near Mahabalipuram and is enjoying this creative phase in her career. "I am waiting to do more period films," she says. And she probably will.
