O Mitva
For O Mitva in Lagaan, there was a huge debate about why someone would sit on a rooftop with a child, when he is trying to explain to the villagers to join hands and play cricket. For me, if the song has a pleasant message, if it wants to entertain people, one can take liberties.
I made Aamir Khan and a child sit on a roof, with the moon in the background. It was the best part of the song.
This was the first song to be shot for the film, and it took a long time. But no one was in a hurry. The cast and crew were living in Bhuj for six months. But I got bored doing this song, as the shoot required three days, but ended up taking eight.
People were intrigued when I took up this song. I am known to do Western, technically savvy songs, and this was a folk number.
