Mohanlal is Major Mahadevan

Does the film have anything to do with the Kargil war?

The film is about terrorism in Kashmir, but that is just the backdrop against which it is set. What is portrayed is the love and respect a senior army officer has for his junior officer. I play an NSG Commando. Whenever these officers go into combat, they do it in 'buddy pairs'. The story is based on an experience Major Ravi had in one of the operations in Kashmir. It underlines the need to have such committed officers. Interestingly, the man who was Major Ravi's buddy pair for several years has also acted in the film.

What attracted you to the story?

The intention behind the film. Major Ravi is exploring what kindles terrorism, who these terrorists are and how we can tackle them. The film is not about war or violence; it looks at terrorism from a human perspective. The film is inspired from an incident that took place in the Major's career when he was combating terrorism in Kashmir. The incident will move everyone.

We are at the southernmost tip of India and it is only when we travelled to the northernmost part and lived there for a month that I understood how fortunate we are. When we reached Kashmir, I felt as if I was in a different country. I felt like asking God several times why this beautiful place had turned into such a dangerous one.
