8. The Lion King
This 1994 film was originally titled King Of The Jungle -- till researching animators realised African lions don't live in the jungle!
Humbled, the Disney troupe moved to Africa to study their primal subjects up close.
Featuring a galaxy of famous voice talents (James Earl Jones, Jeremy Irons, Whoopi Goldberg all starred), an epic score by Hans Zimmer and a smash hit Elton John soundtrack, this Hamlet-ish feature was underscored by darker themes, and was the first Disney film to depict the actual death of a character.
One of the most iconic coming of age films of the 1990s.
