Telugu cinema's outsider returns

July 27, 2006
What triggered the idea of the film? You had said that the short story Flowers for Algernon impressed you? Is it your take of this story?

Yes, the idea of Amma Cheppindi came to me after I read Flowers for Algernon. Apart from inspiration, my film bears no resemblance to that story.

It took me exactly 14 weeks -- from the first germ of the idea to a bound script. The film is about the unquestioning belief a son has in his mother.

Is it a tearjerker?

It is not just a maudlin tearjerker. It will touch your heart.
