Tamil Cinema: The year so far
July 17, 2006
When Chithiram Pesuthadi, with new faces Narain and Bhavana (though they are established names in Malayalam) was first released, there was no one to watch it in theatres. It was withdrawn after a week. Producer-distributor Oscar Ravichandran happened to see it though, and recognised its immense potential. He re-released it with a lot of publicity, and the film became a
huge success.
The 'gana' song Vaala Meenukum by Gana Ulaganathan became a cult song in
Tamil Nadu and the singer, a rage. Bhavana became the new hot entrant from
Kerala after Asin and Nayanthara. The filmmaker Mishkin -- who, until now,
worked in a bookstore -- has suddenly become a filmmaker to reckon with.
