The Making Of Omkara

July 13, 2006
For costume director Dolly Ahluwalia, the prospect of dressing up Othello in a mainstream Hindi film idiom was extremely challenging. Most of the costumes chosen were in the unglossy zone in terms of colours and cut. But the trick was to still make them look stylish. Ajay was pitch perfect as the brooding Omi. He was given deep dark colours and a shawl, which is like Omi's signature, "a modern day cloak for a modern day Othello."

Saif went for a drastic hair cut, grew a beard, blackened his teeth, wore soorma and painted his nails red. He was dressed in soiled green, another salutation to his envious character. Kareena was dressed in soft pristine shades to enhance the purity of Dolly. Viveik was made to look believable as a small town student leader with his checked shirts and half sweaters.
