Nominee Spotlight: Reese Witherspoon

Sweet Home Alabama (2002)

This film, directed by Andy Tennant (Remember Will Smith's Hitch?), is not a very good one.

A predictably rehashed romantic comedy, the film revolves around a successful Reese Witherspoon who is about to re-marry, but she must first get a divorce from the husband she left behind. She embarks on the said expedition, and falls in love with him, again.

Despite the claptrap, Witherspoon dives into her part with hard-to-summon sincerity, much reducing its contriving nature.

When the dust settles and you curse yourself for watching this film, you still think Reese did good -- which is saying quite a bit.
