A peek at Netru Indru Naalai

When Ramesh Arvind entered the stage in white pants and black shirt, with a whip in his hand, there were smiles on the faces of even those unfamiliar with the songs of the 1960s. When the song Naan Aanayittal (When I take a vow) started, there was excitement too. This is one song you hear at all election meetings. There is also no TV channel that does not play it at least once a month!

It is the song that made MGR the man the poor of Tamil Nadu looked up to with hope. Through Valee's lyrics, MS Viswanathan's music and TM Soundararajan's voice, MGR became the "friend of the poor".
