In the first year, Netru Indru Naalai was a general program. In the second, it was more specific, showcasing Kamal Haasan, SP Balasubramaniam and Yesudas. When Vandana and Vaishnavi approached Mani Ratnam for help in 2005, he immediately agreed to shoulder the responsibility of organising the entire show. He took complete charge of everything, from concept to sets and costumes.

The show, scheduled for Independence Day 2005, had to be postponed at the last minute due to heavy rain in Chennai. It finally happened on February 5, 2006. It began with actress and dancer Bhanupriya and an ensemble of dancers performing on drums. What followed was a spectacle that made the audience want more. No one was disappointed.
