Kamli: A film dedicated to the girl child

August 14, 2006
Tiladanam was critic-turned filmmaker K N T Sastry's (right) first movie and won him a great many accolades. As a documentary filmmaker and writer, Sastry has received many awards too. Now, he is shooting a film called Kamli in Jilellguda, an hour's journey from Hyderabad.

According to reports, Kamli was to do with the selling of girl children and was set among the lambada community of Andhra Pradesh.

When I reach Jilellguda and the spot (an open area where some concrete bricks are stacked) where the shoot is on, I find no fuss or frills. As I walk through the cordon of people, I find Shafi (playing Kamli's husband) sitting in a corner and rehearsing his shot.
