The man who makes Rani glow
August 10, 2006
I have wanted to do the Kajre Re look on Ash for a long time. She has done films without make-up, like Mani Ratnam's films, but never in commercial cinema. That too, this was an item number.
We didn't want her to look like the regular, glamorous Aishwarya. So Aditya Chopra, Ash and I had a chat and decided to try it. We decided this item girl had to look raw. She couldn't be a polished, glamorous woman, because she was dancing in a bar. And it worked like magic.
It's very hard to change a heroine's look because there's only so much you can do in Hindi films. You can't do trendy, fashionable make-up because she wears certain kinds of clothes or plays a certain kind of character. And how many different characters do you see a heroine playing? She's a housewife, college girl or romantic lead opposite an actor. How much difference can you bring within that?
