Entry into cinema
As a child, I wasn't very interested in studies, although I would get
through my exams. When I was in class XI, I decided to do something that
interested me. I was neither keen on studies nor in joining my father's
business, which is why I picked acting. I had dabbled in plays in school.
Once I decided to pursue it as a career, I went to Kishore Namit Kapoor's
school in Mumbai for an acting course. That three-month stint (when I was
16) taught me how to be independent. It was tough - a different world
altogether. I had to manage my finances and live alone. I was away from home
for the first time. But, on the whole, it was fun. Subsequently, I also
attended Satyanand's course in acting in Visakhapatnam.
My parents and friends stood by me and encouraged me to pursue acting. My
parents always asked me to do what I enjoyed. To get a break was difficult.
I was not from a film family. The first two years were quite depressing. But
I call those years the golden years -- what I learnt in that phase I can
never learn again. Now, after seven movies, I can't come out of cinema. It
is the profession I love.
