Malayalam cinema ready for Vishu

Despite the heat and dust of the assembly elections, there is a lot of excitement in the Malayalam film industry as films by Mohanlal, Mammootty and Dileep are releasing for Vishu. In Kerala, not all Vishu films are released on April 14; they are spread out. For instance, Mohanlal's Rasathantram is out on April 7. It could be an understanding between filmmakers.

Rasathantram is the most eagerly awaited film of 2006 though. It marks the coming together of Satyan Anthikad and Mohanlal after a gap of 12 years. They were the most successful combination in the late 80s and 90s and, together, made several unforgettable films. Even today, Keralites love watching films like Nadoidikattu, Pattana Pravesham, Sanmanassullavarku Samadhanam, Gandhi Nagar Second Street, and T P Balagopalan MA, to name a few.

Mohanlal plays a carpenter in the film, with Meera Jasmine disguising herself as a boy in the first half.

Director: Satyan Anthikad
