Born in Berlin, Monaghan grew up in Manchester, where he often played the role of rabble-rouser in British theatre and television. Before TV, however, he managed to squeeze in a number of odd jobs, including mail sorter and sauté chef. He is an environmentalist, loves surfing and enjoys football.

Now, thanks to The Lord Of The Rings, Monaghan has a number of jobs offers on hand. Expect to see a lot more of him in the near future.
