Cult British magazine Total Film just released a deliciously controversial -- and quite interesting -- list of the Top 10 Films of All Time. As with all such polls, the results are debatable, and yet make for a fun read.
Here's a quick guide to the 10 superb films:
10. HIS GIRL FRIDAY (1940)
A delightful classic, this screwball comedy starred Cary Grant at the height of his considerable charm, and Rosalind Russell with terrific timing -- and marvellous dialogues.
The film is a wickedly funny satire about the press, and features Grant as Walter Burns, editor of a major Chicago newspaper. About to lose his journalist wife Hildy (Russell) to another man, Walter assigns her an insane story in a last-ditch attempt to delay the proceedings. Much hilarity ensues.
Walter: I still wish you hadn't done that, Hildy.
Hildy: Done what?
Walter: Divorced me. It makes a man feel he's not wanted.
Hildy: Oh, now look, junior... that's what divorces are for!
