Have there been times when you have not been happy with your performance?

Many times. I don't come with any rehearsals or work out situations in my head. I leave it to my director. I follow my director like a bat; I'm blind in front of him. I'm not the kind of actor who thinks they've done so much. I see a lot of actors doing just that, and it doesn't help them. Because, ultimately, a film is a director's conviction.

So what do you do when you aren't on the sets or contemplating a script?

I spend time with my family, friends, do silly things. What those silly things are is not to be known because of the way it will clash with the image I have in the media [laughs]. They're just silly -- sometimes girly -- things.

What do you think is the public perception, the Bipasha Basu image?

I think the public perception is snooty, sex-symbol. Someone who just sits there like a cat and bats her eyelids [laughs].

Does that amuse or annoy you?

It's amusing. I love it; it's fun; it's crazy! I love it because my reasoning for doing films -- after Ajnabee, I had signed Raaz, but I was still not clear what I was doing in life -- was that 'I'm a girl, I'm a model, I've done fashion shows, what a boring life I have.'

Can you believe that in a normal life I can battle ghosts, be a cop, a scientist, commit murders? Does any profession give you that much freedom? Acting is ideal because it's exciting forever, and you get to be things you can't even imagine.
