From student films and commercials, all done in Texas, McConaughey graduated to directing short films. A chance meeting with director Richard Linklater led to his being cast in Dazed And Confused, in 1993.
A year later came The Return Of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, with Renée Zellweger, where he played a bloodthirsty killer. With the success of Lone Star and A Time To Kill, both in 1996, a star had arrived.
