Like Indian Idol winner Abhijeet Sawant, Amit never sang film songs in his previous competitions. "Before Indian Idol, he would sing only classical songs and ghazals," adds his father.
The people in Chhattisgarh are delighted with Amit's success. They gave him a huge welcome when he returned to Bhilai after his selection in the top three.
"There was a time when people in Bhilai didn't even know us. Now, the whole country knows us," exclaims Ashok. "The seniors in my office only talk of Amit and me, not my work!"
