Arpita Mukherjee

I'm 23, and have moved from Delhi to Mumbai because I wanted to pursue a career in music. I completed my education from Delhi's Kamala Nehru College, with honours in Economics.

I have been learning music since my childhood. First from my mother Jayashree Mukherjee in semi-classical forms, then I learned classical from Deepak Chatterjee. Here in Mumbai, I am learning classical and also voice training techniques from Shri Anant Vaidynathanji. He was the head of the classical division of HMV.

The auditions were pretty cool. The first song was of my own choice, so I sang Rasik Balma. Then they asked me to sing some sizzling number, so I sang Raat Akeli Hai. Then I was asked to do a cabaret number, so I did Kar Le Pyaar Karne Ke Din Hai Yahi from Talash. After that, they told me I was selected.

I have two elder sisters, and I am the youngest in the family. Both of them are married. My dad was in the Air Force, and my mother was a music teacher in Vishwabharati Public School in Delhi. She left the job because of my career, as they don't want to leave me alone.
