Special: Oscars 2005
Ocean's Eleven

After this Steven Soderbergh heist film, one could pretty accurately call Cheadle Sammy Davis Jr Jr! After all, the actor did play the singer in a biopic made for television, The Rat Pack, and then worked in this remake originally starring – you guessed it – the Rat Pack!

The caper flick has a wafer thin plot. Danny Ocean (George Clooney, headlining a cast of all-starrers) is fresh from a jail stint and recruiting key players for a special job – to steal money from three casinos belonging to Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), and to win back his ex-wife, Benedict's current girlfriend.

Cheadle acts in the film as if on a dare, using a ludicrous Cockney accent that gives Dick Van Dyke renewed credibility. However, his Basher Tarr is an explosives expert of great over-the-top affability, and while his role in the film started off as trivial (he's uncredited in the film), his character became popular enough to be a headlined star when the sequel, Oceans Twelve, opened last year.
