Srikkant believes there are two types of audience -- the classes and the masses -- and actors have to satisfy both. So far, he has had an urban hero image, and his movies are more successful in urban centres than in rural Tamil Nadu. He feels that action is what takes an actor closer to the masses.
He decided to try his luck in action films like Jhoot and Varnajalam, but they failed at the box office. Critics called him 'soft-faced' and declared that he would never be an action hero. This, in spite of the fact that he had what was needed for an action hero, including a good physique.
"I was very disappointed when my action films flopped. But I didn't want to do only safe romantic films. So when Bose was offered to me, I grabbed it. I do not want people to think I am capable of doing only lover boy roles," he asserts.

Srikkant admitted that he was not planning to have an action image either. "I am not looking at my film career as a short one. This is my profession, and I want to stay here. My life is going to centre around cinema. I have a roof over my head, I get food to eat, and I have fame too. Am I not getting more than what I require for a decent living? So why not keep experimenting? For that, I have to do a variety of roles. I want to be a commercial hero, a saleable one. You become a saleable actor only if you do all kinds of roles."
