Bewitched

Ever since Starsky And Hutch, it's been merely a matter of time before acclaimed women began channeling their energies toward redoing sixties girl-power television shows.

Nora Ephron, known for her romantic comedies (Sleepless In Seattle, You've Got Mail), assembles an all-star cast, featuring Nicole Kidman as definitive house-witch Samantha Stevens, Will Ferrell as hapless husband Darrin, and Shirley MacLaine as his annoyingly omnipresent mother-in-law, Endora.

While not an ideal summer release, the powerhouse of talent (even as Ferrell only came in after the box office effervescent Jim Carrey declined) should make for an enjoyable afternoon's work.

The problem with feminist filmmakers, though, is that they refuse to appreciate sixties camp comedy for what it's worth, and sadly lace it with 'political incorrectness.' Watch out for Gurinder Chadha's announced remake of the Sidney Sheldon sitcom, I Dream Of Jeannie, which is now apparently all about 'female empowerment.' Sigh.
