Meghna Kothari's first film Prem Aggan (1998), which launched Fardeen Khan, bombed. But her career is far from over. Her new film Bride And Prejudice, which releases today, is one of the most awaited films in India and abroad.

The actress took Senior Correspondent (Entertainment) Ronjita Kulkarni through her experiences of working with Gurinder Chadha.

Santosh Sivan's assistant director (Asoka) Guru was the casting director for Bride And Prejudice. I knew Guru as we had done theatre together. I asked him to introduce me to Gurinder.

I went to Gurinder with pictures of me with my family; pictures with no makeup on. I had the realistic look of Bend

It Like Beckham in mind, which is why I didn't show her my glamorous pictures. I didn't even know what film they were making. I came to know that at the third audition!

I play Maya in Bride And Prejudice. I did some homework by reading Pride And Prejudice again, and taking character sketches of Maya (Mary in the book) from the Internet.

Maya is prudish, always in her own world. She has her principles and follows who she thinks is right. She doesn't run after boys and takes herself very seriously. But I am not like this in real life. I am not prudish!

This is not just a sister's role though Bollywood would think so.

Gurinder is a fantastic director. She knows the pulse of the audience. The dialogues are written so well; you would laugh just reading them. If Gurinder didn't get a shot, she would burst out laughing. Like, 'Gosh! Why aren't they getting it right?'

She was very overworked. Bride And Prejudice is such a large film, with actors from Bollywood, Hollywood, New Zealand and England. It was quite a task for her.
