It has been a long year, with more than a couple of movies comfortably stretching beyond the three-hour mark, and it has seen its share of commendable films.

However, picking the best at the end of the year is always tough. But the hard part is over. The votes have been counted, and the results are in, thanks to rediff.com readers internationally.

Here are the Best Films of 2004:

5. Khakee

Rajkumar Santoshi crafted this taut cop thriller, starring Amitabh Bachchan in yet another role as the dedicated policeman yearning to prove himself. Akshay Kumar and Tusshar produced unexpectedly competent performances.

Akshay stole the show as a reluctant-to-assist crooked cop while Tusshar was above par as the earnest rookie sub-inspector. Intrigue was provided by the unpredictable Aishwarya Rai, seen in her first negative role. The bad guy was Ajay Devgan, in a rather predictable performance.
