The scene being shot is that of a song -- Vande Mataram -- being played as part of the annual function in school. Some baddies try to kidnap a student during the function, but get confused and kidnap the wrong child. What follows is a laugh riot. Ask the unit members details, but they aren't ready to disclose anything!

Manisha plays Ahilya, a single mother, while Om Puri plays a police officer named Poornapragnya Rao.

The film revolves around this kidnapping, and the consequences thereafter.

Mumbai Xpress marks Illayaraaja's return to Hindi cinema. Kamal can't stop praising the legendary composer. "He is a brilliant musician and a good friend. He has helped me on many occasions on the personal and professional front," Kamal says.

"Once when a leading composer ditched me midway during the shooting of Hey! Ram, Illayaraaja bailed me out. We had already completed shooting a number of songs when this unfortunate incident happened. Illayaraaja agreed to compose songs based on the scenes we had, thereby saving us a lot of money which would be required if we had to re-shoot the scenes."
