We were at the MTV Immies 2004, something turning into an annual extravaganza since its inception last year.

This year, the show at Mumbai's Juhu Tulip Star Hotel had a 'horror' theme, which effectively meant that the night was constantly sprinkled with strains of Bhoot hoon main playing intermittently and with a scattering of ghouls: a Dracula lookalike, a sinister monk, women in black saris handing out nimboos for luck and, quite oddly, a Veerappan clone looking visibly out of place amid the coffin and tombstone setting.

Awards were distributed across 23 film and pop categories, with awardees as diverse as Sushmita Sen (Best Performance In A Song - Female, for Tumhe jo maine dekha from Main Hoon Na), Pandit Jasraj (Best Devotional/Spiritual Album for Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya) and The Black Eyed Peas (Best International Debut, for Elephunk).

The three winners were not present at the function.

Best Indipop New Non-Film Talent went to Josh, whose performance had the audience rocking.

The Best Film Album went to Main Hoon Na, and its Zayed Khan was among the artists leaping about frantically on stage. Zayed left a half-dozen interviews midway when he saw cousin Fardeen on stage, with a simple, curt but clear ruling: "One minute. Mere bhai ka dance chal raha hai. We'll talk after that, sure."
