After playing a few smug, brooding characters, Ajay Devgan returns to his original forte: action!

Ajay plays a paramilitary trooper in Mani Shankar's Tango Charlie. Accompanying him is Bobby Deol.

"Tango Charlie is actually Bobby's autobiography," explains Mani Shankar. "You know, each combatant has a code name. They are never called by their real names. Tango Charlie is Bobby's code name."

The director says his film has generous doses of comedy, romance (thanks to Tanisha and Nandana Sen, the younger daughter of Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen) and drama.

"People think action is just people firing at each other," says Mani Shankar. "But it is more than that. I had to do a lot of research, learn the tactics of the Bodos (rebels in Assam) and the PWG (the Naxalite People's War Group). I had to know more about the people who constantly fight them. We think terrorism is restricted to Kashmir, but it is really not."

The shooting started in January 2004 and is 95 percent done. It will be completed in September and is scheduled for a December release. Most of the film has been shot in the Himalayas and in the jungles of North East India. The music has been composed by Anu Malik and Anand Raaj Anand.

Lets hope that Tango Charlie turns out better than Mani Shankar's previous film, Rudraksh, a supernatural washout.
