The talented Mira Nair made a firm bow on the international stage when her film, Salaam Bombay (1988), was nominated for an Oscar.
Her later release, Kama Sutra, led to many raised brows, while her most recent film, Monsoon Wedding, was a smash hit that left everyone dancing to her tune.
Vanity Fair is not Nair's first brush with Hollywood. She directed Kill Bill star Uma Thurman in the HBO film, Hysterical Blindness (2002).
Vanity Fair has other Indian names in the credits. Foremost among them is choreographer-director Farah Khan who brings one of its songs to life. Incidentally, Vanity Fair also marks her Hollywood debut.
Khan was recently nominated for the Tony Awards for her choreography in the Broadway show, Bombay Dreams.
