Deewangee [Primal Fear]

Anees Bazmee cast his favourite actor Ajay Devgan in the role that fetched Edward Nortan an Oscar nomination. The first half of Deewangee was a frame-by-frame remake of Primal Fear featuring Devgan as a schizophrenic murder suspect and Akshaye Khanna as his shrewd lawyer. Since most people hadn't watched the slick Hollywood thriller, there was an element of suspense that made this rip-off interesting at least till the halfway mark.

The lack of any serious competition and competent performances from Devgan and Khanna helped Deewangee rake in decent business. Bazmee admits to being inspired by the Hollywood film: 'But Primal Fear has no music. It cannot be remade into Hindi.'
