Shakti: The Power [Not Without My Daughter]

Director Krishna Vamsi tried to make an Indian version of the paperback hit Not Without My Daughter, which tells the story of an American woman trapped in her husband's home in Iran and her struggle to smuggle herself and her daughter out of hostile situations.

The book had been adapted in Hollywood with Sally Field playing the lead. The director adapted it into Telugu as Anthapuram, a big hit. In the Hindi version, Karisma Kapoor finds herself trapped in Sanjay Kapoor's feudal ancestral village. After her husband's death, she finds herself at the mercy of

her tyrannical father-in-law (Nana Patekar). Despite an extended guest appearance from Shah Rukh Khan and an item number by Aishwarya Rai, Shakti proved to be a non-starter. Karisma states, 'Enacting the role of Nandini was a satisfying experience. The critics and the audience have appreciated my work. That is enough for me.'
